Marlin Bates
County Extension Director
Bio
Marlin has worked extensively across the Kansas City Metropolitan region since 2008 developing and growing the local food system for the benefit of farmers, consumers, and communities. In addition to leading the Douglas County unit, his current role has him working around community development, partnering with agencies/organizations throughout Douglas County to tackle community-wide issues related to food systems, entrepreneurship, and community capacity building. Prior to his current role, Marlin was the Horticulture Agent in the Douglas County office, a Regional Horticulture Specialist for University of Missouri Extension, and an Adjunct Professor for Johnson County Community College. Marlin graduated from Kansas State University in 2007 with a Master of Science degree in Horticulture. His graduate studies were in vegetable production and plant pathology. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in horticulture with an emphasis in greenhouse management and a minor in business from K-State in 2005. |
